WHAT IS BREAST LIFT SURGERY?

A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a cosmetic procedure that can achieve dramatic improvements in breast appearance by altering the shape and position of the breasts. Women often opt for breast lift surgery with Vancouver area plastic surgeon Dr. Owen Reid in response to sagging and drooping, also known as breast ptosis.

    • Elevating the areolas and reducing their size if necessary

HOW DOES BREAST LIFT SURGERY WORK?

Dr. Reid will determine your candidacy for breast lift surgery at your consultation, where he will listen to your goals and concerns. During the examination, he will outline which breast characteristics require attention in order to achieve your desired result.

REQUEST A CONSULTATION

There are many different types of breast lifts. The surgical plan Dr. Reid recommends will be developed specifically for you, and it will be based on both your goals and his evaluation. The basic components of breast lift surgery include reshaping the breast tissue, repositioning the areola and managing the excess skin. Some procedures are relatively short and require only a short scar, while other procedures incorporate more internal breast shaping and longer incisions needed to eliminate excess skin.

All patients who undergo breast reduction surgery will also receive a breast lift as part of that procedure. Dr. Reid will often perform a breast lift in combination with breast augmentation. A breast lift is also a common component of post-bariatric surgery.

BREAST LIFT RECOVERY

Detailed pre- and post-operative instructions will be provided so you feel informed and secure every step of the way. Dr. Reid performs breast lift surgery at a private surgery centre in Vancouver. When performed in isolation, this is an outpatient procedure, meaning that you can go home on the day of your operation.

Many steps have been taken to minimize your discomfort following surgery. Local anaesthetic is injected during the procedure to improve pain control on the day of surgery. Dissolvable sutures ensure that no stitches need to be removed. The use of drains is very uncommon. A post-surgical bra will be provided. This will also help improve your comfort and optimize healing.

Prior to your surgery, Dr. Reid will outline a suggested schedule for your return to work and normal activities. Following breast lift surgery, you will be able to move your arms freely on the day of the procedure. Showering is safe within 24-48 hours. Most patients benefit from 1-2 weeks away from work. Exercise may be resumed after 3 weeks.
