LOWER BODY LIFT IN VANCOUVER

BENEFITS OF A LOWER BODY LIFT

A body lift (also referred to as a ‘belt lipectomy’ or a ‘circumferential body lift’) includes all the benefits of an abdominoplasty or tummy tuck. In addition, a lower body lift will lift and tighten the lateral thighs and buttocks.

CAN A BODY LIFT INCLUDE A FLEUR-DE-LIS ABDOMINOPLASTY?

For massive weight loss patients, a Fleur-de-lis abdominoplasty, in conjunction with a lower body lift, is a safe and powerful procedure. More information on the Fleur-de-lis technique can be found on the Abdominoplasty page.

WILL A BODY LIFT IMPROVE THE INNER THIGHS?

A lower body lift will tighten and elevate the lateral thighs, however, there is typically little to no improvement of the inner thighs with this procedure. A medial thigh lift is the only treatment option for loose skin in this area.

BUTTOCK SHAPE FOLLOWING A LOWER BODY LIFT

Many people have flat buttocks after achieving their goal weight. A lower body lift will not improve buttock shape, although it will lift and tighten the area. To improve buttock shape a buttock augmentation is required. Dr. Reid uses a buttock augmentation technique that utilizes the patient’s own tissue rather than implants.

PREPARING FOR A LOWER BODY LIFT

Prior to a lower body lift with Dr. Reid in Vancouver, we recommend that patients prepare themselves and their home for the recovery phase. Vitamins and supplements should not be taken for 2 weeks prior to the procedure. Ensure that you are eating a balanced diet with plenty of protein and fiber. Consider organizing some assistance with childcare, pets, and housework. It may not be comfortable to lie flat in the first few days after a body lift so prepare a place in the home for you to relax and sleep. Prescriptions should be filled ahead of time and it may also be a good idea to have on hand some gauze, paper-tape, baby/feminine wipes, Acetaminophen and stool softeners.

PLANNING A LOWER BODY LIFT

The final scar position is determined by the pre-operative markings. Dr. Reid will review the markings with you to help ensure that the final result suits your preferences, your body type and the clothes you wear. In the front, the markings are identical to those of an abdominoplasty. Around the back, the markings are the same as those of a buttock/thigh lift.

STAGING AND COMBINING BODY LIFTS WITH OTHER PROCEDURES

For those who have had a major weight loss, a lower body lift is often their first and most important body contouring procedure. This is a relatively long procedure with a significant recovery and so it is not commonly combined with other operations. That said, it is possible for some patients to have an arm lift (brachioplasty), a breast augmentation or breast lift in combination with a lower body lift.

LOWER BODY LIFT RECOVERY

All of the incisions are closed with dissolving sutures and paper tape. A compression garment is placed at the end of the body lift procedure. An overnight stay at the private surgery centre in Vancouver is recommended and Dr. Reid will check on you in the morning prior to your discharge home. Drainage tubes are usually required, they help to remove swelling fluid and speed the recovery. Follow-up appointments in Richmond will take place at approximately 3 days, 1 week, 2 weeks, 6 weeks, and 3 months following the procedure.
